The streatery lies as dead as a dodo

‘Belsize Village lies as dead as the dodo now the party is well and truly over’

• AS Tim Salmon’s eloquent contribution (The ‘streatery’ licence ought simply to cease, August 12) pointed out, myths have an infectious habit of achieving acceptance.

Yet this white elephant of a travesty masquerading as the “saviour of Belsize Village” lies as dead as the dodo now the party is well and truly over.

The invasion of patrons from anywhere other than locally have drifted to pastures new. Perhaps now they frequent the al fresco delights of Soho or Covent Garden where this type of activity is far more suited.

Alas the cuckoo in the nest has called its final chant. Now the seemingly sole domain of but one village eatery, it squats embarrassingly flush against the wilting blooms of the sarcophagus-like barricades poorly disguised as planters.
