The proposed tower block in 100 Avenue Road

• THERE will be packed seats at Camden Council’s political theatre with the latest dramatic performance about the developer, Essential Living, “To Be or Not To Be: a Single Staircase”.

The play will open with Camden’s planning department’s greatest mistake, the notorious, 100 Avenue Road build, and the permission it unwisely granted for this monstrosity.

It will be interesting to observe which mind will be nobler, that of the mayor Sadiq Khan or the head of planning, in demanding that Essential Living does not go ahead with the permission it had been granted for a single staircase prior to the Grenfell fire disaster.

How will moral responsibility, democracy and the power of elected leaders operate in Camden with regard to whether or not it has the clout to influence the quality of mercy of Essential Living’s privately approved (by whom) inspector?

Will that inspector be seasoned with justice for a gentle rain to fall on the future occupants of that building?
