‘The unique governance of Primrose Hill leaves park-goers at the mercy of a third party, the bafflingly unresponsive Royal Parks’

• RESIDENTS of Primrose Hill are being sorely let down by the Royal Parks.

As my colleague Cllr Ajok Athian pointed out in this week’s full council meeting, many residents across Primrose Hill, and Camden as a whole, feel unsafe when visiting the park.

This problem is exacerbated by Royal Parks’s total lack of investment in adequate lighting, CCTV, or other practical measures to make the park safer.

The unique governance of Primrose Hill leaves park-goers at the mercy of a third party, the bafflingly unresponsive Royal Parks. While most other authorities responsible for parks will have seen a rise in crime or anti-social behaviour and taken action, Royal Parks have done next to nothing. This is unacceptable and a total dereliction of the duty of care Royal Parks have towards park users.

I’m thankful to Cllr Nadia Shah for confirming that Camden’s door remains open to Royal Parks. Camden’s brilliant community safety team can provide the expertise needed to support any investments that Royal Parks want to make.

As a local councillor I will keep calling on Royal Parks to make that investment and fulfil their obligations to our community. I hope they listen.
