The Royal Free should get a grip over smoking on hospital land
Thursday, 22nd November 2018
• OUR children walk by the Royal Free Hospital to school everyday. Do we want them to grow up healthy and not acquire the habit of smoking?
If we don’t want our children to suffer lung cancer, then write to the chief executive of the Royal Free Hospital and tell them to enforce “No Smoking” anywhere on their site or by hospital entrances on Pond Street.
How they enforce it is up to them, but enough is enough. It’s time for action without delay. In fact it’s the duty of all of us not to pass by when people are puffing away next to signs that say “No Smoking”. We may find it hard to say it the first time but, as long as we are polite, it will be easier the next.
The Royal Free Hospital trust has a duty of care to the public not only to patients who enter its doors but also towards those who gather outside its doors. They must take control over smoking on their land.
Inside they are treating and dealing with the grief caused by cancer so I urge them to remove all traces of smoking by giving “tough love” in whatever way necessary. They need to fight this life-threatening habit. No excuses for inaction.
