• THE political haggling between the government and Transport for London has gone on long enough!

It’s bad enough being worried about Covid / Omicron, the state of the world and climate change without also wondering whether there will be cuts in our tube service.

Fewer trains with longer delays or shorter hours of service? We don’t know but that’s what London mayor Sadiq Khan said would happen if TfL didn’t get a decent financial settlement from the government.

We shouldn’t be left in this state of uncertainty. A week ago your pages featured letters about the need to resolve the issue urgently and still, a week later, there are no answers and no agreement.

At this week’s meeting of our West Hampstead Amenity & Transport group (WHAT) we discussed this issue, (of which many people seem largely unaware) and asked what Camden Council, along with other London boroughs, London MPs and GLA members have been doing to highlight and challenge this ridiculous stand-off!

Very little it seems. Meanwhile our Underground system is trembling in the balance. Please, for all our sakes, wake up and do something!
