The revolt against councillors grows
Friday, 7th February 2020
• THE protests about Camden Council’s plans to close the much-valued and vital educational resources (Carlton School and GO Nursery) in Gospel Oak are now joined by other local protests.
Two residents’/tenants’ groups are currently proposing votes of no confidence in Councillor Danny Beales, overseer of the Community Investment Programme, and Alison Kelly, Haverstock ward councillor, about Camden’s rehousing policy.
Further afield the burghers of Belsize are considering employing their own private police force to combat crime. Elsewhere traders are up in arms about the council’s extra business tax to pay for a BID (business improvement district).
Senior councillors appear oblivious to the growing revolt. Current cabinet members need to be mindful that elections to the new cabinet are less than two months away.
