The reason we were stuck on the bus…

• I TOOK a 214 bus to King’s Cross and when we reached Midland Road the traffic ground to a halt and we spent over 20 minutes trying to inch forward.

Why? Well, Camden has reduced the capacity of the road from three lanes (including a bus lane) to one, so as to build a cycleway. The result is chaos.

The bus driver finally took sympathy on us and let us off and the passengers, including elderly, infirm and mothers with prams, had to walk 300 yards to the next bus stop outside St Pancras. So young fit cyclists are being given priority over those who really need to use public transport.

The irony is we spent much of the time waiting on the bus beside a poster from the council urging drivers not to linger because of the need to avoid pollution. How do they think reducing road capacity and increasing congestion will help meet that objective?
