The proposed motorbike charges make no sense
Thursday, 26th October 2023
• SINCE last week, when you published my letter (The target again is the motorcyclists – so protest!, October 19), it has been pointed out to me that Camden Council’s proposals for residents’ parking charges would mean motorbikes charged at the same rate as cars.
Approximately six bikes parked take up the same space as one car. Why should a bike be charged at the same rate as a vehicle six times the size? The proposals are simply unfair.
Surely Camden councillors will see the inequity of the proposals as they did three years ago, when similar proposals were withdrawn.
If you live in Camden and work at another address in Camden, under the current suggestions, you will have to pay nearly £600pa in a combination of residents’ parking and business permits where currently there is no charge at all.
By all means, over a period of time, encourage the move to electric vehicles; but such a massive charge, overnight, makes no sense at all.
Protest: submissions to Healthy Streets, Healthy Travel (sic) at Camden by November 5. And contact your councillor.
