The political elite junket on the upper deck…

• JUST received the following invite from the local Labour Party…

“Join us on Sunday 11 December at 4pm to celebrate our successes: brilliant local election results, rising opinion polls, and Labour’s exciting and unifying Conference. And to look forward to 2023.”

Well, for a start, Labour got just 51 per cent of the votes in Camden but over 85 per cent of the seats. A success for our electoral system but not our voters.

Many of those are looking forward in 2023 to inflation, food and energy poverty, possible huge rent and mortgage hikes, evictions, and further delays in home repairs. They are unlikely to be able to afford the £10 ticket, even if they get a free drink.

Struggling volunteer food banks will be seeking how to continue to pay rent to the council as energy costs rise, demand increases, and food supplies falter.

We note that three or four members of the captain’s table of SS Camden (aka The Titanic) are hurriedly seeking places in the lifeboats to become MPs as the iceberg nears.

The political elite junket on the upper deck while those below in steerage dread 2023. Will the music at the celebration be Abide With Me? Is this our local doomsgate?
