The outrage expressed by Rebecca Shirazi is justified

Thursday, 5th April 2018

• SHORT of self-sabotage, Rebecca Shirazi cannot be accused of anti-Semitism as she is Jewish, (Labour has been at the forefront of the fight against racism for decades, March 29).

Words can be misconstrued. As seems to be the case here – when Cllr Gio Spinella, leader of Camden Conservatives, attacked her (Camden is at the forefront of the anti-Semitism battle, January 25), the Labour candidate for Frognal and Fitzjohns ward. Clearly he must now defend or deny his position.

To me the outrage expressed by Rebecca Shirazi is justified. I am also a mixed-race woman and know the pain these racial wounds inflict.

Yet we have the power to destroy fear, corruption, ignorance and prejudice by our wit and intelligence. The true radiance of our higher mind, in all its dignity, can and will overcome these scourges on humanity.
