The nurses’ housing plight could be solved… here’s how

Thursday, 16th November 2017

• YOUR article (Nurses forced out of homes by Christmas, November 9) reminds us of the callous disregard that landlords can show people.

Genesis Housing Association have published the latest updated figure for their empties; it is 683. Their new chairman, Dipesh Shah, could easily spend a little less time on his forthcoming, potentially disastrous, merger with Notting Hill Housing Association, a move which may yet go down in history as his “folly”, and decide to fix this matter.

Dipesh Shah is able to snap his fingers tomorrow morning and tell his staff to give emergency remedial attention to some of his empties and issue assured tenancies to the nurses well before they need to leave their existing homes.

It is up to him. Let’s hope that he does so.
