The new rubbish collection system doesn’t work

Thursday, 20th July 2017

• IN a long conversation the other morning with a binman about the rubbish and recent change in two-weekly collections, I said I was shocked at the amount of rubbish piling up outside my street property.

I have noticed my bins being used by other residents (and I’m sure it’s happening to others) to dump their rubbish and a big food oil drum, clearly from a takeaway or restaurant beside my bins.

Other residents must have no option but to find alternative bins as theirs are too full. My recycling bins are also being used to dump rubbish in.

The binman I spoke to told me a lot about Veolia, the company used by Camden. He said it’s chaos. He gets shouted at because people are angry that their rubbish hasn’t been collected and there are flies and maggots everywhere.

He said the company spent millions on bin lorries but only a handful are in use as the rest are broken down. He also said the borough is too big for two-weekly bin collections.

It’s not working. They are inundated with complaints and the wheelie bins stink now it’s summer. I agree 100 per cent with him. Camden stinks! I wonder what the tourists think – rubbish strewn everywhere.
