The new policy on waste is overdue

Thursday, 6th April 2017

• I AM a council tenant in Gaisford Street, in one of four converted flats in a house, and have been told by the council I will be moving to fortnightly rubbish collections while my recycling will continue to be collected weekly.

I am 75 years old and will receive an assisted collection and I don’t mind admitting, a free weekly incontinence pads collection service as well. I get through a lot of batteries for my wireless so I signed up for this collection service as well.

I am astounded that Petra Dando, a tentant representative speaking on my behalf, contemplates breaking the law and implying that the council is “forcing” me to recycle (Bins row: ‘The rats are going to have a field day’, March 30).

I would like to reassure those in charge in the council who brought on this policy that I am all for it and it was well overdue. We need to take drastic action to make people think twice before throwing things away which pollute our environment.
