• LIKE many Londoners, we are gravely concerned by the incident that resulted in the death of Chris Kaba.

Chris Kaba was just 24 years old, he was an expectant father, and on Monday September 5 his life was cut short by the Metropolitan police.

Our deepest sympathies lie with Chris Kaba’s family, friends and loved ones.

Like too many black Londoners, they are having to come to terms with a tragic loss at the hands of those who are meant to protect them.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct has now launched a homicide investigation and this needs to be conducted with urgency and transparency.

Too often in the past IOPC investigations have been kicked into the long grass leaving heartbroken families waiting years for justice.

The Met urgently needs to change. Everything necessary must be done to make sure a tragedy like this never again occurs.
