These are failures of consultation and more

Cllr Adam Harrison

• THE council cabinet member for sustainable Camden, Adam Harrison, attended a meeting of a large number of members of the Haverstock branch of the Labour Party last week.

He informed the gathering that Queen’s Crescent was to be pedestrianised and to have cycle lanes. There was, apparently, to be no consultation with residents or shopkeepers.

His solution to pollution was to have everybody on a bicycle – again no proper consultation; as there had not been in the case of Prince of Wales Road cycle lanes.

He would not discuss the plans of the secret assembly which has produced (again) a vision for the area based on extensive consultants’ expensive reports and on the “views” of 30 unknown residents meeting in secret.

At the last secret assembly meeting at the beginning of December, the 30 members got the 50-page plus report for comment for the meeting on the very day of the meeting itself.

There remain considerable problems in accessing the website to give comments on some of the work of the secret assembly.

As to the plans to close Carlton school as a legal entity, this is based on the views of just 19 parents. The council refused to allow parents to have a vote.

The march towards a dictatorship (alas not of the proletariat) of the Camden Council Labour administration goes on.

Readers will be aware that Cllr Harrison was not elected to his cabinet post; and the cabinet all voted themselves a massive £10k rise in their allowances this time last year.
