The Judd Street changes are to be welcomed

• I AM so pleased for the residents of Bloomsbury and I only wish Camden Council had approved this before I sold my flat on Hunter Street.

This residential street (which, of course, changes its name to Judd Street at the lights) was always very busy with motorists using it as a short cut to Euston Road. We had to install secondary glazing, and keep it shut all the time, and my daughter’s curtains were always covered in diesel smuts.

When it came to moving home just over a year ago, the understandable reaction of “it’s lovely but there’s just too much traffic” cost me a string of potential buyers. The person who did buy it was reassured when I told him about the plans for Brunswick Square.

This will massively improve quality of life on the grid. As it happens, I am now lucky enough to live on a no-through-road in Islington. While I will always love Bloomsbury, I do not miss the fumes, noise or jams outside my window.

People in my new neighbourhood tell me there was massive resistance to the “closures” in the 1970s when they were put in place; but everyone around here would admit that this seems crazy now.
