Picking up deliveries from Primrose corner shop
• I WAS very upset to read the letter in response to John Gulliver’s lovely account of the generosity shown by the Primrose Hill community towards it’s elderly population, (Gulliver was wrong about Oldfield estate, June 4).
Indeed, the letter has caused a great deal of upset among the residents of Oldfield estate, many of whom in contrast to what is claimed are isolated and in need during this period.
There are many more than just a few living here who are dependent upon these kind donations. The lockdown closed our communal sitting room, library, weekly activities and our social life. We felt alone!
Our twice weekly hot lunches, organised by Mick at PHCC, the twice weekly breakfast club, run by two residents David and John, and my tea parties all stopped. It was a scary time.
The people of Primrose Hill brought us love, care, groceries, essentials and treats. The children drew us pictures and left us Easter eggs.
It is important to all of us that the community fully understands that its kind efforts, far from being “excessive” and not required” are not wasted but a lifeline and very gratefully received.
A huge thank-you from my friends and me.
