Sadiq Khan has been sworn in for his historic third term as mayor of London

• CONGRATULATIONS to Sadiq Khan on his re-election as Mayor of London, even if your Comment was right that his success benefited in part, at least, from the return of the archaic FPTP, first-past-the-post voting system squeezing the smaller parties, (Who really wins when the vast majority don’t vote? May 9).

But thank you, too, to everyone who still voted Green, ensuring we retained our three Green Party assembly members to hold the mayor to account on the detail of his delivery.

This electoral term takes us to only two years from his 2030 deadline for London to reach net zero, and we will be checking his progress against carbon emission targets every step of the way.

A snazzy new green suit is all very well but the necessary action to meet climate targets will be more challenging.

And if the general election goes Sir Keir Starmer’s way, the mayor won’t be able to blame the Conservative government much longer for failing to help.

Hopefully a Labour government will also bring back the fairer voting system, for next time we elect London’s mayor!

CAROLINE RUSSELL
Londonwide Assembly Member, Green Party
