‘The extension of the congestion charge will destroy jobs and the economy’

• THE reported offer being made to Transport for London for a bailout package by the government is tantamount to blackmail.

The Conservative government want to scrap free travel for children and over 60s as well as inflation-busting fare rises for hard-pressed Londoners.

The extension of the congestion charge to the North and South Circular will destroy jobs and the economy in this city too.

This is another vindictive act towards Londoners who did the right thing and stayed at home, and didn’t use public transport during the pandemic.

No other transport authority in any part of the country has been saddled with debt by the government either. The Tory war on London must stop.
