• AMID the difficulties with which we are all struggling during this pandemic, spare a thought for the City of London, apparently once again threatened with ruin.

How else to explain the final page of the appendix to its recent Draft Divisional Plan, which proposes charging for access to the Heath toilets – via contactless payment?

On a human level, it’s hard to find words for a proposal conceived by people who have apparently never encountered, or even imagined, poverty or old age.

On a practical level, they can surely not have ventured into any outdoor space during the first lockdown or they would know that the inevitable – and immediate – result will be the transformation of the entire Heath into a giant (but free) toilet.

I leave it to others to suggest the forms of direct action appropriate in response to this plan.
