The council’s pension fund investment in fossil fuels is wrong
Thursday, 21st June 2018
• AFTER reading Helen Chapman’s report it became clear to me – as I suspect it did to many others – that having Camden Council’s pension fund invested in fossil fuels is not only ethically wrong but it also represents a clear conflict of interest, (Protesters in black demand: Stop investing in oil and gas, June 14).
And it makes a mockery out of their commitment on tackling climate change. Every day people in this country and around the world are dying from air pollution. Whole eco-systems and communities are being destroyed for the sake of profit from fossil fuels.
If the Camden Climate Change Alliance is genuine about wanting businesses to become greener, it is time for the council to set an example and put its money where its mouth is, by divesting into renewable energy like other neighbouring boroughs have done.
