The council must learn to manage contractors effectively

• AS a candidate for Gospel Oak ward I have significant case work on council-owned street properties in the area having scaffolding erected for over eight months or more with no work being carried out – even worse – in one example I was told the rendering on outside brickwork was removed and then works abandoned for eight months.

This is causing damp and cold for all affected homes. I spoke with a leaseholder for whom I am taking this case forward, who will not be named here, but who is very unhappy with how all residents are treated.

What’s worse is that scaffolding firms lease out to the council on daily rates, so extended periods of no work represent eight months’ of costs which are all passed on to the leaseholders and the council tax payer.

This blight not only affects multiple flats but the neighbouring houses. This practice must stop. Camden must learn to manage contractors effectively.
