The coroner’s role is to serve all communities and all faiths
Thursday, 18th January 2018
• COUNCILLOR Abdul Hai is unfair in seeking removal of coroner Mary Hassell to an area that has “less faith sensitivities”, whatever that may mean (Coroner in burial row, January 11).
The law should be uniform. Councillor Hai can criticise the coroner if she is not following the law but his criticism is based on untested feelings. We cannot have divisive society branding Jewish area, Muslim area, Hindu area, Christian area etc.
Councillor Hai has no positive idea as to how logistically a coroner can do her duty to satisfy the people of all faiths. Councillor Hai’s statements give an inaccurate message as if only Muslim and Jewish faiths want swift burials after death. This is far from the truth.
