The Camden Highline plan is flawed

Camden Highline

Image of what the Camden Highline could look like

• I AM extremely concerned about what little is known about funding the proposed Camden Highline development.

I believe this should be a matter of general concern.

The Camden Highline business plan, November 2022, is seriously flawed, and almost certainly unworkable.

Two issues particularly stand out:

First, the authors assume the income from the commercial arches on Bonny Street (where I live) and Prowse Place estimated at £500,000 – that is 65 per cent of the annual outlay – can be used for the development.

But they do not indicate any agreement by Network Rail for this. The next highest contribution, £80,000, is to be generated by the highly questionable commercialisation of Camden Gardens.

Second, London mayor Sadiq Khan has indicated the space at Camden Road station is designated for improvements to the Overground. No provision is being made by the developers for the removal of the proposed park and its installations.

Is Network Rail happy to bear this cost? Camden residents and taxpayers?

These issues need to be sorted out in advance. Now.
