Tree support

Treated stakes that will be reused often after the young trees are stronger

• CHRIS Heath (‘Forest’ project is not sustainable, May 5) questions the use of wooden stakes to support newly planted trees.

The most sustainable use of wood is to dry it and use it, for example, in buildings rather than let it release carbon through decomposing.

Camden Forest deployed over 2,000 trees last year of which 20 used dried and treated stakes that will be reused often after the young trees are stronger.

The Camden Forest project is also sustainable in that it is volunteer-led.
