The Board of Deputies should respond to the June 28 open letter
Thursday, 12th July 2018
• I ENTIRELY support Selma James’s letter regarding the message of the open letter sent to Board of Deputies of British Jews (BoD), (We are appalled by the actions of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, June 28). I was, however, greatly disappointed to learn that the BoD did not respond to this letter.
This drove me to send my own email to the BoD saying: “As a signatory of the open letter sent to you by many prominent Jews and activists in Jewish the community, I am quite disheartened to see that you did not take the trouble to respond to this important letter.
“Being an Israeli-born citizen (dual nationality) I have witnessed the plight of the Palestinians as from the creation of the state of Israel in 1948… Please demonstrate that you are, indeed, accountable to the many Jews in the British community who oppose Israel’s inhuman treatment of the Palestinians, and duly respond to the letter which challenges your unquestionable support for Israel repeated violation of international and humanitarian law” .
May I suggest that the BoD, which is Camden-based, should consider responding through the pages of the Camden New Journal, whose wide-ranging readership includes quite a few of the Jewish signatories to the open letter sent to them?
