• THANKS to Slaney Devlin (Tower plan is a threat to health and wellbeing, June 4) and Jeff Travers (No consultation has occurred concerning HS2 and this important nature conservation site, June 4) for writing about the importance of green space in our environment.

I have sadly come to the conclusion that neither local nor national government care about nature or important environmental issues.

Big business is winning at an alarming rate. People’s welfare doesn’t count. Nature and open green spaces provide an emotional equilibrium, superior to all else.

And in this most polluted area, after Covid-19 lockdown is totally removed, it will be able to boast of an even higher rate of air pollution.
