The appeals procedure into deselection of candidates could be fairer
Friday, 7th January 2022
• MARTIN Plaut writes (Labour selection was fair, December 30) that he believes the Labour Party reselection procedure to be scrupulously fair.
The appeals procedure could be fairer if the reasons for the decisions could be revealed.
However, according to Labour Party rule, the reasons remain confidential to the appeal panel concerned and this means that panels can make any decisions, without further scrutiny, behind closed doors.
