That was no erosion of the estate verges…

Bare spots in Holly Lodge Estate, Highgate
• CLEARLY Dr Ali Hossaini is not that familiar with the current Holly Lodge Estate, (Please let the verges grow naturally, July 9).
First Camden Council, whom he berates for regularly mowing the verges between the roads and the pavements, is not responsible for the verges on this estate, the estate committee is.
Secondly the photograph you printed (above) does not show erosion of a verge but vehicle curb-side damage.
Lastly, and most importantly, last year the estate committee initiated a programme of “controlled wilding” parts of the verges on the estate avenues (the roads running east-west) and expanded it this year in response to a residents’ survey.

Controlled wilding
This programme (above) needs to be sensitive to the safety of those walking or working on the verges and banks and to ensure the support of the estate community on whose behalf the estate is managed.
