Thanks to those who are dealing with our rubbish

Friday, 3rd April 2020

• MAY I use your columns to thank the binmen of contractor Veolia and all those at Camden Council who work in the related section of the council’s environment department?

Dealing with rubbish is not most people’s ideal job, yet the bin men come to my estate as regular as clockwork to remove general waste and recycling waste, and I am very grateful to everyone involved for their keeping the show on the road during this pandemic.

We can all do more to help, of course, by properly sorting our rubbish for recycling (and breaking down boxes, cleaning the tins and bottles at the end of manual washing up, and so on). No longer dropping litter in our streets would be good too!

Let’s say a personal thank you to our binmen, as well as to food shop workers, blue light staff and, of course, our National Health Service and other medical staff and those in the caring and teaching professions, who are all playing such an important role while many of us stay at home.

Say it at a distance of two metres, of course, perhaps shout it!
