Thanks to the street cleaners and others

Thursday, 23rd November 2023

• I JUST wanted to say a word of thanks to the street cleaners who, despite the recent wet weather, are dealing with the leaves cascading onto our streets.

Like many others I’m the first to complain when services fall short without thinking about the hard work and experience of these workers, including refuse collectors and other council workers who look after us. It seems much easier to criticise than appreciate them.

Knowing that Camden has had funding cuts I enquired about the extent of them. It seems that since 2010 the council has received 67 per cent less government funding per resident and that they will have to reduce their budget by £35-40million over the next three years.

It made me think that I should be more grateful for the services we receive and the efforts that staff and the council are making to deliver them, despite the horrific Tory cuts.
