‘Be a Hawley Arms hero’

• IN an article about us trying to buy the freehold of our pub The Hawley Arms, your reporter wrote we felt “it was too good an opportunity to miss”, (Save the Hawley Arms: Publicans bid to buy bar with help from regulars, February 14).

In fact we have spent months agonising over whether to attempt to buy the freehold as it is such an enormous debt to take on.

Ultimately we chose to go ahead, because of the risk that a new landlord could change the terms of our lease in such a way as to make the business unviable.

We have loved the Hawley since we took it on in 2004 and we want to protect it; it is an important part of Camden’s heritage, especially as the landscape around us is changing so much.
