Thames Water will work with us concerning flooding

Thursday, 25th November 2021

• WE met senior managers from Thames Water last week to discuss the devastating floods in South Hampstead last July. We wanted to know what they might do to prevent it happening again.

It was a very positive meeting. The Thames representatives said they wanted to work with us to understand what caused the flooding so that they can address the key issues.

For example, in the short term they could install sustainable urban drainage systems and help with flood-proofing vulnerable properties.

In the longer term, depending on what their investigations reveal, they could invest in more substantial improvements to our local drainage system.

However if Thames Water are to make this area a priority for action they need more concrete evidence about the number of properties affected.

Although many residents and businesses were flooded in July, very few have formally notified Thames. If we want them to tackle this issue everyone who was flooded needs to fill in Thames Water’s flooding questionnaire.

You can do this online at: tinyurl.com/f6k8br7c – or you can print a copy to fill in by hand by searching: “Thames Water Flooding Questionnaire”.

Thames Water will keep everything you tell them confidential. They will not share it with any other organisations, including insurance companies.

If you need help with printing the form or filling it in email us on: floodactionsouthhampstead@gmail.com

And many thanks to Hampstead and Kilburn MP, Tulip Siddiq, who organised and chaired the meeting. And to the Camden councillors and staff who also came to the meeting to lend their support.
