TfL needs to take a look at the roads near Euston

Thursday, 5th April 2018

• FOR many years the traffic lights at Royal College Street and Jeffreys Street in Camden Town were described as the “Marie Celeste” because they were unnecessary.

Well, with the arrival of the separated cycle-paths on Royal College Street they have long gone but sadly there’s a new set.

And it’s a very ominous indictment of things to come – the utter failure of joined-up writing between TfL, HS2 and Camden Council.

Five whole months ago Cardington Street in Euston closed forever. Its northern end starts at the lights on Hampstead Road.

Despite there not even being any pedestrian sequence there to cross the heavily trafficked Hampstead Road, those lights are still operating 24 hours every day!

And there’s more madness. The area is very soon to be deluged with a an army of HGV lorries to remove spoil from the demolition of a very large number of buildings to the west of Euston.

But right now there is no left turn eastward from Hampstead Road onto the Euston Road. So many of those forthcoming trucks will have no alternative access route than to use long-suffering Drummond Street.

Could TfL please wake up, remove the Cardington Street traffic lights and facilitate the turn from Hampstead Road east onto Euston Road, please?
