Test people for harm caused by HS2 works
Thursday, 4th May 2023

• BEFORE any work on High Speed 2 can continue (even in two years’ time) there must be a full investigation and testing of all residents in Camden, especially in Somers Town, and Hampstead Road, for the physical effects of long-term ingestion of toxic air emanating from the insidious, overwhelming, demolitions, building works, and destruction of our natural world on an unprecedented scale!
And isn’t it sinister and terrifying to know, that we have a government that is so outrageously greedy that it is quite prepared to let its inhabitants choke and suffer deathly breathing and lung illness, for the sake of billionaires’ profiteering from those same inhabitants’ taxes; and whose very existence is threatened by HS2?
However I note Georgia Gould, the leader of Camden Council, summarises her department’s role as: “Given their long-term significance to retain the oversight of HS2, equalities and residents’ safety.”
And “To have overall strategic responsibility for resident safety in Camden.”
And “be responsible for health and safety issues…”
Well, you could have fooled me, as it seemed in the past that the council were falling over backwards to facilitate HS2 against the people’s wishes and needs, in every way.
Camden Council have completely failed in their above stated duties.
I suggest that Cllr Gould and her team treat HS2s’ grave assault on the health, safety and wellbeing of Camden residents, as a matter of urgency – as she did with the threat to life of cladding on the Chalcots estate tower blocks.
And I would ask Cllr Gould to also collaborate with the Chief Medical Officer for England, Professor Sir Chris Whitty, as a matter of urgency, to arrange the mass testing of all men women and children, after years of inhaling and ingesting filthy, toxic air, caused by the demolitions on an unbelievable and catastrophic level.
It cannot be right that lives are put at risk for the sake of a crooked government, and an equally crooked £160billion train project! That money could be used to pay our workers, who are forced to strike for a living wage or, indeed, the many other things that could make life better for the people until we get back on our feet.
So please contact your MP and insist that we be allowed to see what the state of our health is really like since HS2s’ inception, and before it continues to seriously harm even more of us in the coming years.
For all our sakes, and our future, High Speed 2 must be stopped immediately!
