Terrorists do not represent Islam

• THE committee of the Baitul Aman Mosque in Gospel Oak are horrified at the death and horrific injuries done to people in Borough Market and London Bridge.

That this was reportedly done in the name of Islam only makes matters worse and divides our rich, diverse, community.

The terrorists do not represent Islam nor do they have a place in our community. Their ideology and perversion of the Holy Quran, used for their evil acts, are blasphemous and must be rooted out.

One of the main tenets of our religion is that thou shall not kill, and if you kill one innocent person it is as though you have killed all mankind; and if you save one person it would be as though you have saved all mankind (5/32) – one we share with many major religions.

We condemn all those who seek to divide us and destroy our way of life. We look forward to working hard with the community, the police, and local authority to stop those who fuel hate, terrorism, and islamophobia.

We prayed for those killed and injured in Manchester and will do so for those in London.

Secretary, Kentish Town Baitul Aman Mosque
