ACES from South Hampstead Tennis Club have dedicated their latest trophy to “the heart and the soul” of the club.

The seven-strong men’s first team from Milverton Road were crowned champions of the Winter Middlesex Floodlight League following their convincing win over North Finchley Ravens.

Upon lifting the winners’ trophy the players quickly dedicated their silverware success to the club’s long-time member Donald White who died earlier this year.

“Donald was a great presence around our club and had practically become the groundsman, tirelessly keeping the place tidy,” said South Hampstead team captain Dan Sullivan.

“Although we won the league there was a touch of sadness in the air. I would personally like to thank the players from the Ravens for paying their respects during the minute’s silence and all the members for their kind support.”

Reflecting on the league win, Dan insisted that on the court things are going from strength to strength after remaining unbeaten on their way to winning the winter league.

South Hampstead didn’t even drop a set in their final three matches, continuing the top form that saw them win the treble in the summer season.
“It just keeps getting better and better,” Dan added. “We have a tough summer coming and this will give us tremendous confidence.”
