• THANK you for highlighting the work currently being undertaken on the Hatton Garden Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan (Gem of a neighbourhood under pressure, Property News, April 6).

This document is designed to guide development within the conservation area and is one of the tools used by council planners in making decisions on planning and listed building consent applications.

As your report highlighted, Hatton Garden is a wonderfully characterful place and best known as the centre of the UK jewellery industry.

As Crossrail arrives nearby, we want to preserve what is best about the neighbourhood while ensuring that new development is of a high standard and in keeping with the unique nature of the area. I do hope that anyone who is interested in the future of Hatton Garden will let us have their views on the new strategy.
