TEAM Camden bagged the bragging rights yet again on Sunday when they outpaced their rivals to retain the capital’s Inter Borough Challenge trophy at Finsbury Park athletics track.
Some of the top athletes Camden has to offer were on show as they helped their borough edge past opposing teams from Islington, Haringey, City of London and Hackney.
The highlights included Caspar Hopkins winning the boys’ Under-11s race, while team-mate Patrick Kyle won the boys’ Under-13s race. Austin Harris won the boys’ Under-15s race, followed by team-mate Oliver Haddad who came a close second.
The boys’ Under-17s race saw Camden record one of the best team results on the day as they claimed a top three finish, with Louis Griffin winning the event and Tal Pelmont and Allister Sleeman taking second and third place respectively.
The race of the day for Camden without doubt came in the girls’ Under-15s contest, where they boasted six of the top seven finishers.
Sasha Fear won the event, while Sophia Staab, Kira Rothwell, Maxine Chapman, Jessica Wilkinson and Daisy Griffin all finished within touching distance of each other to claim places three to seven.
There was also success for Etsher Pigney, who won the girls’ Under-17s race, with team-mate Lilah Fear taking third place.
The team, which is managed by Ben Dorsett from Camden Council’s Sports and Physical Activity Service, in partnership with the Highgate Harriers, will soon be back in action with the top six runners in the Under-13s, Under-15s and Under-17s age groups earning the right to represent their borough at the London Mini Marathon on Sunday April 24.
