THERE’S simply no stopping the sporty show-stoppers from New End as they won their third major primary schools competition in a row on Friday.
Having already aced a tennis competition and made a big splash at the swimming gala, youngsters from the school in Streatley Place, Hampstead, finished top of the podium at the annual Camden Schools Sports Association Cross-Country Championships.
It’s the biggest event organised by the association, with more than 1,500 children racing around a testing course at Parliament Hill Fields.
The event, which was open to Years 3 to 6, was even bigger than before and took a real team effort with members from Highgate Harriers Athletics Club, the Camden Sport and Physical Activity team and NVQ students all playing their part.
The older athletes also joined in as more than 450 runners took part in the Secondary Schools Championships.
The boys’ team from Collège Français Bilingue de Londres in Kentish Town and the girls’ team from South Hampstead School were crowned overall champions in the Years 7, 8 and 9 categories.
The final races saw William Ellis School in Highgate and Camden School for Girls win top honours in the Years 10 and 11 age group.
For the first time all the runners were given a number, along with a final position and a race time after both the primary and secondary schools events were sponsored by the Camden Sports Council.
