TEAM Camden will be boasting a strong starting line-up in the London Mini-Marathon in April after winning the Inter Borough Challenge Shield for the 10th year in a row.
The borough’s top athletes joined runners from rivals Islington, Hackney and Haringey at Finsbury Park for the testing 2.5km race, which is used to identify the best youngsters to take part in spring’s grand showpiece.
There was plenty to run for with the top eight athletes in each age group automatically qualifying for the mini-marathon on April 21.
And the Camden contingent didn’t disappoint with siblings Isabella and James Millet both winning their respective Under-11s and Under-15s races.
Camden picked up a double medal haul in the girls’
Under-17s race with Hannah Viner taking gold with a time of eight minutes, 36 seconds – finishing seven seconds ahead of team-mate Georgia Fear, who took silver.
Daisy Griffin also ran well as she collected a bronze in the girls’ Under-13s race with a time of 10mins, 31secs.
Team manager Ben Dorsett, who coaches Camden’s 48-strong squad alongside Highgate Harrier Graham Norris, was delighted with how things are shaping up ahead of the mini-marathon.
“It was a great day and a great achievement by all the athletes that took part,” he said. “I want to wish all of the runners selected for this year’s mini-marathon the very best of luck.”
