PREDATORY players from the Camden Sunday League had their shooting boots on at the weekend as they set their sights on firing their teams into the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup.
There was no shortage of net-bulging action with the eight first round ties in the competition – which the New Journal proudly sponsors – producing a whopping 45 goals.
Hat-trick hero Michael Wicks signed off for a deserved winter break in style as he led Highbury Town to a 3-1 victory over division two rivals Dinamo Dorigo. The Islington-based club will now face Tufnell Park Athletic, who put on a five-star showing in their game against St Peter’s.
Division One side Tufnell shared the goals around with Ted Maxwell, Jack Cohn, Chris Vassilliou, Aled John and Nick Terry all finding the back of the net in a 5-1 win over their third division opponents.
Hal Stockley struck twice as AFC Brasenose cruised to a comfortable victory over AFC Birkbeck Orient.
Col Elliott-Kelly and Dave Holloway were also on target in the 4-1 win.
Brasenose will now play Coalition Crusaders, who booked their place in the last eight with a 5-2 victory over Surreal Madrid.
Captain Michael Johnson put in a man-of-the-match display as Cobden Athletic beat The Hurricanes 5-1 on Sunday. Leading scorer Steven Bruce struck twice to take his personal tally to 22 goals for the season.
Kaleb King, Patrick Jones and Harry Pedersen were also all on target for Cobden, who will now take on Crouch End Rangers in the next round following a 3-0 win over Chalk Scratchings.
Lotus were rewarded for their 7-2 victory over Gyro with a mouth-watering tie against Athletico Annies, who ran out 4-1 winners over Enate United.
