What does biodiversity actually mean?
Thursday, 19th January 2023
• SO what does biodiversity actually mean?
Simply put it is the total number of all living organisms, both plant and animal, in any particular area. That area is the habitat.
The more we chop, cut, strim, blow, mow, spray and organise the habitat the less the biodiversity.
Biodiversity is what you had not what you get. Destroying habitat degrades biodiversity.
Does a bush or a shrub, a weed or a pile of autumn leaves provide essential habitat for nature or is it where untidiness thrives?
The new street parklet and container installation is somehow being sold as good for biodiversity. It is even appearing on development plans.
These offer poor habitat and limited biodiversity.
