‘The council should sign this declaration’

• I HAVE found that Camden Council hasn’t signed the Councils for Fair Tax Declaration.

If they did it would mean they wanted greater transparency from big business interests, would promote local businesses who do pay their fair share, and agreed to lead by example in their own tax arrangements.

And, crucially, it would mean they’d pressure the government to give councils more power to stop companies based in tax havens from bidding for local government contracts and stop council funds ending up in the hands of tax avoiders.

Given that our area is so popular with massive companies trying to impose huge, unpopular, schemes on us, I think Camden should join this alliance which aims to protect local people.

If you agree, just search “UK Councils for Fair Tax” and you’ll find a page with more details and a template email to ask Camden to act.
