A TABLE tennis tournament organised to help “break down tensions” in rival postcodes proved a big hit as youngsters went wiff-waff crazy.

A team effort by representatives from Somers Town Youth Club, South Camden Youth Access Point, King’s Cross Brunswick Neighbourhood Association and Somers Town Community Association secured the funding needed to hold the day-long event.

With a new table up for grabs, it was Nathan Hall, 15, who served up success for King’s Cross Brunswick Neighbourhood Association as he beat all-comers to the prize.

With the young players also getting the chance to enjoy a coaching session by a qualified instructor, the Somers Town association’s senior youth worker Jamie King said the tournament “…gave the boys the opportunity to get involved in something positive. In the past there have been tensions between different areas. This tournament broke down some of those barriers.”
