YOUNG swim stars representing Camden Swiss Cottage Swimming Club made a big splash in their first Southern Junior Inter League Final on Sunday at Luton Sports Village.

The squad, made up of some of the best young talent Camden and Islington has to offer, squared up against tough opposition as the winning teams of all the southern junior leagues came together in the hope of securing a place in the national finals.

Among the maximum six-point winners was Ella McEver, 10, who glided to victory in the 50m breaststroke with a time of 42.38 seconds.

Club-mate Brandon Biss, 10, was also in fine form as he won the 50m freestyle in 33.39, before collecting a further four points courtesy of a third place in the 50m backstroke.

Alexis Lambropoulos, 11, also added six points to the Camden squad’s total after winning the 50m freestyle event in 30.52.

Poppy Peters, 9, added a further five points after finishing second in the 25m butterfly, while strong third-place finishes from Nick Finch, 9, Nikita Markov, 9, Leo He, 10, Gabriele Giavannoni, 11, and Yann Divet, 12, helped ramp up Camden’s final tally.

The relay teams also helped add vital points to the club’s overall total.

The boys’ 9 years old freestyle team of Markov, Finch, Haziq Kyril and Josua Mara finished second in their competition, as did Camden’s boys’ 10 years old medley team of Biss, He, Oliver Wright and Antoine Divet.

Agonisingly Camden just missed out of the top-four finish they needed to qualify for the national finals as they finished in fifth place overall with 140 points.

Team manager Michelle McCarthy said: “Our junior team performed really well against some of the very best swimming clubs in the country.

“We are working hard to build a great base of young swimmers who will push the club to greater achievements in the future.”
