SWASHBUCKLING young swords from Camden Fencing Club made their point at the weekend when they captured a mighty medal haul at the British Cadet and Junior Championships.
Held at the SportsDock by the University of East London’s Docklands campus, the most gripping final came in the men’s Under-20s sabre event where Jonathon Webb took on club-mate Rubin Amsalem.
In a closely fought contest, it was Jonathon who struck gold as he clinched a 15-12 victory.
Camden duo Eden Amsalem and Shreya Anil also made it on to the podium as they bagged bronze medals in their respective boys and girls cadet sabre competitions.
Eden did really well to beat Caspian Watt from Shakespeare’s Swords 15-9 before succumbing to eventual champion Will Deary from Truro Fencing Club in the semi-final.
Shreya can also be proud of her third place finish after being beaten by just two points in her contest against Truro’s Caitlin Maxwell, who went on to win the title.
