Support democracy and vote Lib Dem on May 3
Thursday, 1st February 2018
• IN your Letters pages two weeks ago, Camden Labour representatives hit out at the Conservatives for putting up pro-Brexit candidates in Frognal & Fitzjohns ward (A pro Brexit slate in our ward is not on…, January 18).
The idea that the Labour Party does not have Leave supporters among its ranks and would instead defend Camden against the damaging effects that Brexit would have is grossly misleading.
Not only does the very top of its party leadership support Brexit, with Jeremy Corbyn recently ruling out membership of the single market, but Camden Labour is putting forth Leave candidates for the local elections in May.
I am horrified that in Cantelowes ward, where I and my fellow pro-European Liberal Democrat candidates are standing, Labour has selected Ranjit Singh, who is both a committed Leaver and a senior representative of his local party as chair of its Holborn and Covent Garden branch.
Ranjit Singh announced on Twitter on June 11 2016 that he would be supporting “democracy” by voting Leave.
I urge Camden residents to truly support democracy by voting for the Liberal Democrats on May 3, a party that will unambiguously stand up for their interests on Brexit by supporting a referendum on the terms of exit and campaigning to stay in the EU.
