THE Camden Sunday League returned with a bang at the weekend as Hackney Marshes played host to a glut of goals and opening day dramas.
In Division One, champions Cobden Athletic paid the price for only being able to field nine players as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Constitution.
Cobden looked to be beating the odds until they were hit by two goals in the final minutes of the first half. Steven Bruce came off the bench to reduce the deficit, but wayward finishing from an ill Jason Williams meant they missed out on a remarkable comeback.
Crouch End Rangers gave Division One debutants AFC Camden Borough a rude awakening as they came from behind to net a resounding victory.
Arti Krasniqi smashed in a free-kick to give Borough the lead, but goals from Ramon Chaves, Tom O’Donnell and Harouna Camara saw Rangers battle back to take control.
Jamie King’s superb header made it 3-2, and Borough should have levelled but Michael Johnson missed a crucial penalty.
It proved costly as Camara went on to complete his hat-trick before Chaves wrapped up a 6-2 win for Rangers with his second.
In Division Two, Langham FC played out a 4-4 draw in a topsy-turvy match against AFC Shooters. A deflected strike from Seb Bance, two goals from Will Hawkins and a thunderbolt from Kwame Adofo was more than enough proof that newcomers Langham know how to find the back of the net.
