MORE than 450 athletes from across the borough braved the frosty conditions to take part in the Camden Schools Cross-Country Championships at Parliament Hill Fields.

The weather didn’t stop pupils from South Hampstead High School in Maresfield Gardens, who were crowned overall champions in all three of the girls’ age groups.

Anna Adetiba from Acland Burghley School raced to victory in the Year 7 race, closely followed by Martha Rushbrooke from South Hampstead and Saima Mohammed from Camden School for Girls.

South Hampstead dominated the Year 8 race with Lilah Fear and Amber Vernon Powell finishing first and second respectively. Bethany Green from Parliament Hill School was third.

Georgia Fear led South Hampstead to victory in the Year 9 event, while team-mate Madi Gray also placed in the top three.

Organised by Camden Sports Development with support from the Highgate Harriers, the boys’ event was just as competitive.

College Francais Bilingue De Londres (CFBL) in Kentish Town won the Year 7 and 8 titles, while William Ellis School in Highgate Road won the Year 9 crown.

Filip Bastien from CFBL took the Year 7 race, while Acland Burghley’s Charle Brunning became the Year 8 champion. Abdulhakim Ahmed from Haverstock School raced to glory in the boys’ Year 9 competition.
